Ruth Bader Ginsburg was most known for her fight and advocacy against gender discrimination; the Supreme Court will never forget the impact she’s left behind. She was a Supreme Court Justice from 1993to 2020, and she would have turned 89 today.
Some of her notable actions include passing the Equal Credit Opportunity Act and contributing a crucial vote to both Roe vs Wade case and the 2015 case Obergefell v. Hodges. By passing the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, her work surrounding women’s financial independence acts as a foundation for addressing other issues of equality, such as protecting pregnant women in the workplace. She advocated for women to apply for credit cards and mortgages without a male signing the contract, and her impact is still valued today. Her vote in the Roe Vs Wade case ensured that pregnant women could have an abortion without government intervention. Additionally, her vote in the Obergefell v. Hodges case allowed the LGBTQ community to have the right to same-sex marriage in all 50 states of America.
